JHU will not accept portfolios

The Jathika Hela Urumaya on Tuesday said they would not accept any ministerial portfolios as they had only lent their support to President Mahinda Rajapakse and not the United Peoples Freedom Alliance or the People’s Alliance.
Senior JHUer ex-DIG H. M. G. B. Kotakadeniya said the JHU had endorsed the features included in the Mahinda Chintanaya and would give their support, in and out of the Parliament, to President Rajapakse to enable him to implement the proposals outlined in his manifesto.
"We will not accept any ministerial portfolios and will not sit with the UPFA government in the Parliament but we will support any proposal that would benefit the people and country," he said.
Kotakadeniya said the JHU’s independence was clearly demonstrated by the fact that they did not have any pact with the UPFA or PA.
"Our alliance was only with President Mahinda Rajapakse and we supported him on the basic demand that he would maintain the unitary nature of the country and when devolving power.
